Is Bolivia right for you?

Temporary residents get 90 days outside Bolivia per calendar year. We can apply for an additional 90 days, getting you up to 180 days permitted through our team. This is a straightforward application. Half of the year out of country, half in.

Bolivia is probably right for you if...

  • You're ready to actually live in South America
  • You want zero tax on foreign income (and you'll spend 185+ days here to earn it)
  • You hold crypto and want out of reporting regimes like Paraguay's Resolution 47
  • You want a real cédula for banking, KYC, and exchange access
  • You like the idea of a $500/month luxury apartment in a growing city
  • You value privacy, territorial taxation, and a country that isn't in CRS
  • You want to live in a fast-growing financial and crypto hub (5,000+ attendees to crypto conference 2025)
  • You want temporary residency in your hand as fast as one week

Bolivia is probably NOT right for you if...

  • You want a flag-theory "paper residency" you can collect without living there
  • You need to be outside Bolivia more than 180 days per year for work
  • You need a beach or ocean lifestyle (Bolivia is landlocked)

Why Bolivia, honestly

0% tax on foreign income

Bolivia operates a territorial tax system. Income earned outside Bolivia is not taxed. That includes crypto gains, remote work for foreign clients, investments, pensions, and foreign rental income.

No crypto reporting

Bolivia lifted its crypto ban in 2024 and has not implemented CRS. Banks offer USDT accounts to residents. Your cédula works as KYC at major exchanges.

Low cost of real living

$500/month gets you a new-build luxury one-bedroom apartment in the best neighborhood of Santa Cruz, with amenities like pool, gym, sauna, 24/7 security, and views of the city.

The Nature

Bolivia is one of the most geographically diverse countries on earth. Tropical lowland cities like Santa Cruz, 20,000-foot snow-capped peaks in the Andes, the world's largest salt flat at Uyuni, and untouched Amazon jungle, all in one country.

Santa Cruz is growing

Santa Cruz generates 35% of Bolivia's GDP, attracts 40% of foreign investment, and is hosting Bolivia Blockchain Week 2026 with 4,000+ attendees.

Path to Permanent Residency

Our temporary residency pathway leads directly into permanent residency. Three years on permanent residency qualifies you for citizenship if you want it.

How it works

Four steps from intro call to ID card in your hand.

1

Book an intro call

Tell me your situation. Where you are, what you want, your timeline. I'll tell you honestly whether Bolivia is the right fit or if you should look at Paraguay, Argentina, or somewhere else.

2

Document prep

Once you're ready, I'll walk you through the document list. For most clients it's straightforward: passport, bank statement, a few supporting documents. No apostilles needed for the standard 1-year path. The 2-year work permit path has slightly more paperwork. We cover this on the call.

3

Enter Bolivia and file

You arrive on a tourist stamp. Once you're settled, we'll begin your residency application. You stay in Bolivia during processing. Residency is typically issued within 7-10 days, with your official ID card following 3-4 weeks after.

4

Your cédula is issued

You walk out of the migración office with your Bolivian ID. You can now open bank accounts, access crypto exchanges, get a driver's license, operate a company, and live and work here fully legally.

What's in your hand at the end

A cédula de identidad de extranjero. Bolivia's national ID card.

  • Open Bolivian bank accounts (including USDT accounts at Banco Bisa)
  • Pass KYC at international crypto exchanges with a Bolivian address
  • Get a Bolivian driver's license (internationally recognized)
  • Serve as legal representative of a Bolivian company
  • Operate fully legally in-country with none of the tourist-visa runarounds
  • Enter the path to permanent residency after 3 years
  • Qualify for Bolivian citizenship after 3 years of permanent residency

Common questions

Can I really get a 3-year visa right away?
The 2-year residency path (our Pathway (2-year) package) skips the year-1 renewal. After 2 years on that track, you go directly to permanent residency. So effectively yes, you're set for 2 years without renewal, and the door to permanent is open after that.
What type of residency am I getting?
Bolivia's 2-year temporary residency runs through a work permit pathway. This is standard in Bolivia for people who want to come and live here who aren't under a student, volunteer, or family visa. The work permit is coordinated by the same lawyer team that's applying for your residency. There are no implications or unknowns around it. This is the standard process in Bolivia that the lawyer team has been doing for 10+ years. I'll walk you through exactly how it works on the call.
How long does the whole process take?
Residency is typically issued within 7-10 days of filing. Your official ID card (cédula) follows 3-4 weeks after. You need to be in Bolivia during the processing window.
Do I need to wait 15 days before applying?
Yes, Bolivia requires you to be in-country as a tourist for at least 15 days before filing. Day 16 you can file. I'll coordinate your arrival so you don't waste time.
How many days do I need to spend in Bolivia each year?
You can be absent from Bolivia for 90 days total per calendar year. We can apply for an additional 90 as part of your residency process, bringing you to 180 days you can spend outside of the country. This is stricter than Paraguay or Panama. We emphasize this because it disqualifies some people, and we don't want you to pay for residency you can't maintain.
Can my family come with me?
We'll structure family applications based on your specific situation. Book a call and we'll talk it through.
